A Lovely Job

Saw this job at the Natural History Museum of London posted this morning:

Digital Projects Librarian
Library and Information Services

Salary: From £20,726

The Natural History Museum is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable person to help with the creation of a Digital Library as an extension of the services offered to Museum staff and to others via the Web, co-ordinating with European and global digital library developments to make our books and original artwork about the natural world available to all in digital form.

The main responsibility of the post-holder will be to determine the technical requirements for the Digital Library and drive its subsequent implementation, so that item-level and collection-level records may be integrated with full-text, images and other digital material. Library and archive material will be incorporated into thematic sections under the guidance of the Interactive Media Team.

The successful applicant will have a degree, or equivalent, in either library science or computer science and be thoroughly familiar with the development of networked information systems.

This is a full time permanent position and in return, you will receive generous holidays entitlements of 27.5 days, the opportunity to subscribe to sports and social activities and join a generous pension scheme.

I'm not too sure about that salary - sounds mighty skimpy for London - but what a GREAT job! Ah, if I were twenty years younger and twice as smart I'd be there throwing elbows for this one.

Salary sounds about right for starting out in a London Library...Pretty good money, It's the starting salary for most photographers I know...when you do the exchange.
