Story Corps

Story Corps is a national project to record hour-long oral histories of average people. All of the interviews will be archived in the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. The site tells you how to record a story at home, or you can visit a Story Corps booth at one of their locations.

They're in Atlanta right now, but they will be in Raliegh on April 6th. What a cool project! Grab someone you love with a story to tell and get them recorded.

Thank you so much for spreading the word about StoryCorps! It’s wonderful to see these stories gain new life through the people who hear and pass them on – we hope they continue to resonate so strongly with listeners!

I wanted to let you know that StoryCorps has released “Listening Is An Act of Love,” a collection of some of the most remarkable stories we’ve collected, in paperback. We’ve also launched a set of do-it-yourself tips and tools to make it easier for anyone to record a conversation with a friend, loved one, or person whose story they have always been curious about. As the holidays draw nearer, we’re hoping to pass on a gift idea: pairing a copy of “Listening Is An Act of Love” with a copy of a personally-recorded conversation (or with a request for a friend or loved one to tell you about their life). This adds a meaningful touch to the holiday season, and gives that special someone incredible inspiration to share their own stories!

The book and DIY tools can be linked to at We hope that this initiative will create a new chance for people to truly listen to one another and discover what wonderful and unexpected stories can come from the simple question “tell me about your life.”

Thanks again and best wishes for the New Year!
